Two Months Old!

October 23, 2012: Two months old

Dear Mae,
How another month has come and gone in the blink of an eye my little lady. But, a lot has happened during these past few weeks. You were showered with lots of love from your family this month. Aunt Karen got to fly up from Florida to meet you for the first time. Her witty personality is contagious and I know you will have a lot of laughs with her in years to come. Our friends from a few blocks over, The Johnsons, brought yummy bagels and fruit when they came to meet you this month. Little Hank gave you your first kiss, and although Dad didn't capture a shot until you were crying truth be told you were very smitten with him. Only time will tell how this romance will play out  ;)
Grandma and grandpa s. got to visit a few times this month, always bringing delicious food for mom and dad to enjoy. We told her no more of that though, because we are starting to hit the gym to loose the pregnancy weight we both put on this past year.
Grandpa and grandma m. and uncle Christian stopped by this
month to say hello. They brought you a Tinkerbell pumpkin
they carved with your name in it.
Grandma s. got to babysit you for the first time for an hour while Dad and I ran to a quick doctor's appointment. She said you were a gem! Since then, grandma r. and great grandma v. babysat you while dad and I went to yet another appointment and grandma s. and nana watched you so we could go out for our first anniversary dinner. It was hard to enjoy dinner being away from you but when we called to check in they said you were happy as could be. Being babysat threw off your sleep schedule a little bit, but hey we try to go with the flow around here.
Grandma r. and Ed came over one Saturday to keep us company when Dad and Christian went to a Redbulls soccer game. Grandma saw you get a bath and gave you a relaxing lotion massage.
Talking about sleep you have made leaps and bounds since the first few weeks you were home. You started sleeping in your crib this month and sleep for at least eight an a half hours   straight. I think our new nightly routine we implemented this month has certainly helped! Unlike last month you seem to love bath time now with no crying at all. At 9:00 pm we run the shower in the bathroom to steam it up all nice and warm for you. You love to hang your legs over the side of the sling in the tub and try to chew on the washcloth I put on your belly to keep you warm. After a quick soap down and mom's five little ducks song we are good to go!
After drying you off you enjoy your lotion massage, followed by putting your jammie jams on and being put into a swaddle sack- arms out of course! We tried putting you in just a plain old sleep sack, but you kept kicking you legs and waking yourself up. So, your pink fleece swaddle sleep sack the Samber's gave us will live on for now. After swaddling you up and nursing one last time your down for the count. I put on the rain noise (the only one you like) on your Sleep Sheep your down for the count. One night the batteries ran out on your sheep and you were not amused. After he quickest battery change done by mom a crisis was averted.

The morning time is one of my most favorite times of the day. After going to sleep around 10:30 pm you typically wake up around 7:00 am. After waking up hungry you eat for around an hour. I know your done because you will flash me the biggest smile and then we get you
dressed for the day.

After a quick hair brush and face wash you love to lay in your crib for a few minutes and kick your piano with your legs to make music.
After about ten minutes your ready to move onto something new. We usually sit on the couch (you in your Boppy lounger) and read books, sing songs, and play with all your rattles. You enjoy watching mommy and daddy entertain you while enjoying a mid-morning snack involving your fingers.
Your working on your grip and ran hold your rattle for a few seconds and make some noise when I put it in your hand. But, you grabbed onto your plastic hanging circle in your play mat on your own the other night. Grandma r. was over to see it. We were so amazed by you!
One of your favorite rattles is the love bug
It's special rattle noise just lights up your face.
We listen to your Baby Einstein musical toy in the morning, but boy
oh boy that music is faced paced- to put it mildly.
After about fifteen minutes you are onto new adventures in your play mat. Mom loves to hang new things from the hooks to see what tickles your fancy. You were really intrigued with the mirror when we first showed it to you, but your kind of over it at the moment.
Tummy time has not been your thing, and since Dad and I hate to see you upset we haven't strongly enforced it. But, times are changing munchkin, because we need to strengthen though neck muscles! You seem to like it in your crib more, especially when Mr. Turkey is involved!
After being awake about an hour you eat again and enjoy your swing for a bit until you drift off into sleep for your long nap of the day, lasting about three hours. This is when I run around the house or out to do errands and get stuff done.

After you wake up you eat again (always an hour) and we go for our daily walk. The fall weather is so nice we just need to get some crisp, cool air in our lungs.
After being too scared to use the ring sling which didn't support your neck well, l I ordered the Moby wrap. After a quick youtube tutorial we were ready to roll! You love having you head out while I support it while we walk. But, after a half an hour you slowly drift into sleep and I tuck your head into the wrap. When we get back from our walk you stay asleep in the wrap for a little bit until you are ready to eat again.
After eating, the dreaded witching hours begin. You don't really cry but like to nurse from 4 to 8 pm to get ready for your long, nightly sleep. During this time we sit on the couch and catch up on television shows, dance around to records Dad plays, read books, and enjoy your peek-a-boo bear Grandma r. and Ed bought you.
Before October hit I put out all of our Halloween decorations to get ready for my favorite holiday. There have been a lot of Halloween outfits, bibs, and spooky stories going on. You love listening to Mom sing the Five Little Pumpkins song with all the motions. I wouldn't be able to be a Pre-K teacher without knowing that song, right? You went to the pumpkin patch for the first time where we picked a cute little pumpkin for you. I think we are all set for Halloween, minus picking up some candy for the trick-or-treaters.
After dealing this an eye infection during your first month the end of your second month included baby acne. We thought it may be an allergy to dairy so dad and I were elated that all we had to do was put on some medicine on your face twice a week for ten minutes. We just have to make sure you don't smear it all over your face into your eyes. So far so good!
You had to have your tongue cut at the ear, nose, and throat doctor at the end of this month. We did it to make it easier for you to eat and it could cause speech issues later on in life. Dad and I were so worried but after a little cry you drank your bottle and acted like nothing happened. Maybe the cat sweatshirt grandma r. got you gave you super powers. But, later that night you were in so much pain we had to give you pain medicine for the first time. It made you feel better and the next morning you were good as new.
You light up my life little mama. I'm cherishing every day I get to spend home with you on my maternity leave. Here's to another work free month ahead!

Love,
Mom

P.S. Dad, Perry, & JJ say they love you lots and lots!
